As an Automation Technician, you will travel to AP&T’s customers in North America as required for installations, service, training, and commissioning of new equipment. We expect you to take pride in providing top‑notch customer satisfaction and following up on service visits. This role requires strong problem‑solving abilities, excellent communication, and experience in troubleshooting machines, including electrical functions, control systems, pneumatics, mechanics, and some hydraulics.
This position is ideally based in the Charlotte‑Monroe area of North Carolina, but remote is an option for the right candidate. Travel of up to 80% is expected, mainly domestic and some international. Your responsibilities include:
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment at customer sites
- Install and commission new equipment
- Maintain detailed service records of service activities, repairs, installations, and modifications
- Ensure customer satisfaction by providing remote and on‑site technical support to customers
- Conduct customer training, including creating training material for on‑site and off‑site training
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance
- Ensure all work performed meets safety regulations and company standards
- Associate degree in mechanical, electrical engineering, or a related field is a plus. We value field experience and a big appetite to learn just as much as an academic degree
- Experience in installing and commissioning equipment and electrical troubleshooting
- A good understanding of PLC, ideally Siemens S7, Siemens TIA, and Siemens Simotion
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings
- Pneumatics and hydraulics knowledge is a plus
- Proficient in MS Office Suite
- Ability to travel up to 80% of the time.
