SUMMARYBath Community Schools is seeking a part-time IT technician to support the district’s network infrastructure. The technician installs, terminates, tests, and maintains structured cabling across district buildings and works with district leadership to ensure network infrastructure keeps pace with instructional, operational, and construction needs.
Work is scheduled in advance and performed primarily during evenings, weekends, school breaks, and summer, when buildings are unoccupied. This position is not an emergency or on-call response position.
The technician is supervised and evaluated by the Director of Technology and collaborates with building administrators, maintenance staff, and district leadership on scheduling, access, and project planning.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Installs, routes, terminates, and labels copper and fiber structured cabling in classrooms, offices, and district facilities.
- Terminates and tests cabling to applicable standards; documents test results and corrects deficiencies.
- Installs, mounts, and dresses patch panels, racks, cable management, and related hardware in IDF/MDF closets.
- Installs and relocates network endpoints including wireless access points, switches, cameras, phones, clocks, and classroom devices.
- Troubleshoots and repairs cabling and connectivity faults, working with the Director of Technology to isolate the source of network issues.
- Maintains accurate documentation of cable plant, port assignments, and closet layouts.
- Collaborates with the Director of Technology and district leadership to assess infrastructure needs, identify capacity or coverage gaps, and plan for new or renovated spaces.
- Coordinates with contractors and vendors on cabling and infrastructure work as directed, including work associated with the district’s bond construction program.
- Performs work in compliance with applicable electrical, fire, and building codes and district safety practices.
- Maintains awareness of student and staff privacy; maintains strict confidentiality of any data encountered in the course of the work, consistent with FERPA and district policy.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Technology.
None. This position has no supervisory authority over district employees.
QUALIFICATIONS Required- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience installing and terminating structured cabling, including copper and fiber.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between district buildings.
- Successful criminal history check and unprofessional conduct check as required by MCL 380.1230 and 380.1230a.
- Ability to complete and maintain district-required safety training.
- Experience in a K-12 or other institutional environment.
- Familiarity with enterprise switching, wireless infrastructure, and PoE devices.
- Industry certification such as BICSI, Fluke certification, or manufacturer certification.
- Experience working on projects involving construction contractors and inspection.
- Ability to read and work from architectural, electrical, and low-voltage drawings.
- Ability to use cable testing and certification equipment and interpret results.
- Ability to work independently with limited on-site supervision and exercise sound judgment on project sequencing and safety.
- Ability to communicate clearly with technology staff, building administrators, contractors, and vendors.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, school breaks, and summer, based on project needs.
- Ability to perform duties consistent with district requirements and Board of Education policy.
