The Floor Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Detroit, MI, responsible for maintaining and restoring a variety of floor and surface types in commercial facilities. Day-to-day tasks include cleaning, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and polishing hard floors, as well as caring for carpet and other soft surfaces using appropriate equipment and cleaning agents. The role involves following established environmental services procedures, operating floor machines and tools safely, and applying high-performance coatings as needed.
The Floor Technician will inspect surfaces for damage, perform basic repairs when required, and report issues or safety concerns promptly. This position also requires effective communication with team members, supervisors, and clients to coordinate work schedules and ensure service quality.
- Floor care skills including floor cleaning, stripping, waxing, and polishing across various hard surface types.
- Experience with carpet and soft surface care, including stain removal and use of appropriate cleaning methods and equipment.
- Knowledge of environmental services practices, including safe handling of chemicals and adherence to safety protocols.
- Strong communication skills to interact professionally with team members, supervisors, and clients.
- Ability to operate floor care equipment (e.g., buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors) and perform basic maintenance on tools.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, lift, bend, and perform manual tasks for extended periods, often in commercial facility settings.
- Attention to detail, reliability, and commitment to high-quality workmanship and safety standards.
- Prior experience in janitorial, custodial, or floor technician roles in commercial environments preferred.
