Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Technician 2 at Clinton Lake for the Office of Land Management. The position will perform maintenance of vehicles and equipment, maintain grounds and recreational programs, operate heavy equipment, maintain hunter check stations, clean restrooms, mow grass, plow snow and at times serve as a lead worker. Clinton Lake is a busy boating lake with a beautiful 1,000-foot sand beach, hiking trails, picnic areas, and campsites.
Clinton Lake includes 9,300 acres located in east central Illinois.
- Under direct supervision, regularly performs semi-skilled and some unskilled activities in maintaining and operating Clinton Lake and functionally supervises a small crew during the peak use season.
- Performs routine maintenance and program support tasks.
- Performs routine mechanical repair to the site's equipment and vehicles.
- Assists in implementing the safety and security programs at the site.
- Writes camping permits and collects fees.
- On an intermittent or seasonal basis, provides leadership and direction to volunteers, Conservation Workers and other staff.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
- Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years of maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
- Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
- Two (2) years of experience following written and oral instructions.
- One (1) year of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations.
- One (1) year of experience in outdoor recreation.
- One (1) year of experience in groundskeeping.
- Requires completion of a background check and self‑disclosure of criminal history.
- Requires appropriate, valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with airbrakes designation.
- Ability to obtain pesticide/herbicide operator's license within 6 months of employment.
- Ability to withstand exposure to environmental elements on a year‑round basis.
- Physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of the site resources, buildings, and grounds.
- Ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds.
- Ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.
- Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
