Position OverviewThis position is accountable for supporting the Traffic Operations Engineer in accomplishing the field functions of the Bureau of operations, Traffic Operations Section which includes development and implementation of programs for the installation, operation, and maintenance of traffic control devices.
Essential Functions- Ensures that signing and pavement marking is in compliance with the adopted National and Illinois Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
- Conducts an annual inspection of all traffic control devices in the district.
- Writes work orders for the maintenance and update of existing and new traffic control devices.
- Maintains the District Traffic Sign Inventory System, inventory of other traffic control devices and report development from the various databases.
- Reviews signing and striping in contract plans and during construction activities.
- Serves as liaison with citizens, outside agencies, and other bureaus within the department.
- Submits plans for various Traffic Operations contracts and may act as the inspector and/or resident on these projects.
