Job Title
Maintenance Mechanic
Job SummaryPerform a variety of skilled maintenance and repair work and maintain the operating condition of equipment and systems within the facilities operated by the Department of Safety.
Pay$17.81/hour – $23.39/hour. Trainee status starting at $17.19 per hour.
Minimum Qualifications- Equivalent combination of 2 years of education and experience after completion of high school.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must pass a fingerprint–based criminal background check and motor‑vehicle record check.
- Experience with landscaping equipment.
- Operate, clean, adjust and perform skilled maintenance on machinery, equipment and construction tools to ensure continuity of operations.
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of assigned state buildings, surrounding grounds and equipment.
- Operate, maintain, and repair construction equipment and tools of the trade, including sharpening power and hand tools.
- Perform skilled carpentry, masonry and painting techniques to ensure quality and adherence to specifications outlined by project requirements.
- Follow job site and construction plans to deliver craftsmanship work products.
- Exercise partial supervision over employees doing related maintenance work, including scheduling assignments and reviewing work for accuracy.
- Order maintenance supplies and ensure all supplies needed are available and stocked frequently.
- Perform lawn care and ground maintenance of assigned buildings year‑round by operating landscaping and snow removal equipment.
- Maintain a system of maintenance and supply records for historical and accountability documentation.
- Drive vehicles to move equipment as needed between facilities and throughout the state; make deliveries and pick‑ups from multiple state sites and suppliers, including the DOS garage and warehouse.
- Exercise partial supervision over vendors performing related maintenance work such as custodial and electrical, schedule maintenance projects and review, approve or reject completed work as assigned.
- Perform maintenance of HVAC system in the absence of the supervisor using computer monitoring equipment to identify and diagnose problems, execute repairs such as changing belts and filters.
- Perform monthly electric meter readings and checks of AED equipment.
