Position: 27-004 Maintenance Specialist III - Facilities & Grounds, Full-Time
The City of Dover is seeking a responsible individual to become part of the Facilities, Grounds & Cemeteries Division, to perform highly skilled supervisory and operational work in the maintenance, repair, construction, and administration of City buildings, grounds, parks, cemeteries, and related infrastructure.
This is a full-time, non-exempt 40 hour per week position. $33.62 to $48.66 per hour, and eligible for full time benefit offerings. Position is open until filled.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists with the planning, scheduling and implementation of construction, operation and maintenance activities designed to provide safe, efficient parks, cemeteries and facilities for the city.Provides general supervision of all Facilities and Grounds staff, including general oversight of work performed and project management.Assists in the training of Facilities and Grounds employees to perform the duties of maintenance, operation and repair of City parks, cemeteries and facilities.Inspects and/or repairs City parks, cemeteries and facilities at frequent intervals to ensure that all are functioning properly and in safe condition.Assists in developing, implementing, and enforcing industry-standard safety procedures, operational protocols, and maintenance standards for facilities, grounds, parks, playgrounds, and cemetery operations.Identifies operational deficiencies, safety hazards, regulatory concerns, and infrastructure needs and recommends corrective actions, responsibility includes operational issues affecting aquatic facilities and coordinates corrective actions.Provides training, mentoring, and professional development to Facilities, Grounds, and Cemetery staff in operational procedures, equipment use, safety standards, customer service, and departmental expectations.Conducts or assists with inspections of playgrounds, recreational facilities, cemetery grounds, buildings, and related infrastructure to ensure compliance with applicable safety and maintenance standards.Serves as a professional and compassionate representative of the City when interacting with grieving families, funeral homes, veterans’ organizations, contractors, and the public regarding cemetery operations and burial services.Provides respectful support during cemetery interments and related services by communicating with empathy, professionalism, discretion, and sensitivity to the needs of families.Assists in coordinating division operations during emergencies, weather events, staffing shortages, and other critical operational situations.Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, equipment repairs, etc.Determines the locations of gas, telephone, power, television, water and sewer lines from the appropriate sources prior to any excavation or work which would disturb these utilities.Ensures quick response to complaints and corrects problems following established procedures.Drives trucks of various sizes and weights, works in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, gravel and sand.Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.Operates light and medium sized construction and power equipment, such as the bucket truck or backhoe/loader.Assists with general communications with the public and vendors as needed and instructed by the Facilities, Grounds, and Cemetery Superintendent.Keeps an inventory of all materials and parts needed in the operation and maintenance of cemetery equipment, lawnmowers and other landscaping or building maintenance equipment.Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including cemetery burials, traffic light repair and various building maintenance tasks.Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment used in the Facilities, Grounds and Cemetery Division.Identifies areas in need of repairs or replacement and notifies the Facilities, Grounds & Cemetery Superintendent.Inspects recording charts, gauges and meters for proper operation.Detects and reports safety hazards, faulty equipment, disorders and breakdowns following established procedures.Assists in the mechanical maintenance and adjustments as needed.Maintains a neat, clean, orderly work area and is responsible for assigned equipment.Maintains availability when requested to meet emergency situations.Assists with snow removal operations and in mitigating the effects of man-made and natural emergencies.Familiar with and executes safe work procedures associated with assigned work.Assists with the operation, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair coordination of municipal swimming pool systems, including pumps, filtration systems, circulation systems, water quality equipment, and related infrastructure.Pursues and participates in training opportunities necessary to maintain and expand technical, supervisory, safety, operational, and…
