Lawn Maintenance Foreman
The Lawn Maintenance Foreman is responsible for coordinating, supervising, and participating in the maintenance of all district grounds and properties to ensure they are maintained in a clean, safe, functional, and visually appealing condition that supports a healthy environment conducive to teaching and learning.
The Lawn Maintenance Foreman provides day-to-day leadership and direction to Lawn Maintenance Technicians, assigns and monitors work, ensures proper use and care of equipment and materials, promotes safe work practices, and assists the Director of Maintenance in planning and implementing district-wide grounds maintenance activities. The Foreman serves as a working supervisor and performs grounds maintenance duties while providing leadership and oversight to assigned staff.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of Lawn Maintenance Technicians, assigning work based on district priorities, weather conditions, school schedules, special events, and maintenance needs.Inspect district grounds and properties regularly to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, landscaping deficiencies, equipment concerns, and other conditions requiring attention.Plan and organize daily, weekly, and seasonal grounds maintenance activities, establish priorities, and communicate assignments and expectations to assigned employees.Operate and oversee the safe operation of landscaping equipment, including zero-turn mowers, string trimmers, edgers, blowers, aerators, spreaders, and other grounds maintenance equipment.Perform and oversee seasonal landscaping activities, including mowing, seeding, aerating, fertilizing, pruning, mulching, planting, weed control, and general landscape maintenance.Supervise the proper and safe application of herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, and other grounds maintenance products in accordance with safety guidelines, applicable regulations, and district procedures.Monitor the quality and completion of work performed by Grounds Maintenance Technicians, provide direction, correct deficiencies, and ensure assignments are completed safely, efficiently, and in a timely manner.Train and provide guidance to Lawn Maintenance Technicians regarding proper landscaping practices, equipment operation, preventative maintenance, safety procedures, and district expectations.Conduct or oversee routine inspections and preventative maintenance of grounds equipment and communicate repair or replacement needs to the Director of Maintenance.Maintain appropriate records of work assignments, equipment maintenance, chemical applications, inspections, materials used, and other information as required.Assist with coordinating grounds preparation and maintenance for athletic events, school activities, special events, and other district functions.Promote and enforce safe work practices, including proper use of equipment and personal protective equipment, and promptly report accidents, injuries, property damage, and unsafe conditions.Respond to and coordinate after-hours grounds maintenance emergencies, including storm cleanup, fallen trees or limbs, flooding, and other weather-related hazards.Provide leadership and direction while maintaining a professional, respectful, and team-oriented work environment, including communicating employee performance or operational concerns to the Director of Maintenance.Perform lawn maintenance duties alongside assigned employees as needed and perform additional related duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance.In addition to the physical and mental capabilities implied by the responsibilities detailed above, the work is conducted mainly outdoors with occasional exposure to discomforting environmental conditions such as heat, cold, humidity, noise, dusts and wetness. Moderately heavy physical exertion is frequently required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 75 pounds. In district travel is required.
