Maintenance Technician / Mechanic

Purpose of RoleAs a Distribution House Maintenance Technician, you will perform routine preventive maintenance and troubleshoot conveyor systems and related material handling equipment. Working under the direction of the Maintenance Lead or Supervisor, you will meet Maintenance Department objectives and ensure equipment reliability and longevity while fostering a safety culture.
Your Impact- Maintain a clean, safe work environment and report any unsafe conditions or equipment.
- Repair and maintain all types of conveyors, including replacement of motors, reducers, scanners, sensors, and other components.
- Troubleshoot electrical controls (motor circuits, process or packaging machinery, and programmable controllers) using drawings, documentation, and required tools.
- Determine parts requirements, retrieve parts, maintain parts/stock area, and submit reorder requests, including reasonable substitutions for unavailable parts.
- Perform routine PM activities and keep accurate records of all PM work.
- Have a basic understanding of PLCs, Building Management Systems, CMMS, and Vision Systems.
- Ensure all safety systems on machines are functioning properly.
- 2 – 3 years’ experience or equivalent vocational training.
- Excellent safety record.
- Ability to interpret schematics, mechanical blueprints, and PLC ladder logic.
- Ability to operate or be trained on all MEWP, PIT, and utility carts.
- PC proficiency, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS); knowledge of Maintenance Connection is a plus.
- Knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Warehouse Control Systems (WCS).
- Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
- Reading, writing, and verbal communication of simple instructions and brief correspondence; ability to present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings to customers, clients, and colleagues.
- High school diploma or GED preferred; 6 months warehouse experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of warehouse management systems, warehouse control systems, Excel, and reporting.
- Ability to multi‑task, follow detailed instructions, read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures; basic math skills; strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- 2–3 years industrial plant maintenance technician experience, comparable to level 1 or 2, preferred.
- Indoor work with occasional outdoor exposure; work may involve moving mechanical equipment, heights up to 50 ft, and frequent lifting of 25–50 lb.
- Regular use of hands for handling objects, tools, or controls; reaching, standing, walking, climbing, stooping, and sometimes sitting for computer work.
- Standing, lifting, walking, bending, and handling of weapons or small tools with both arms, use of cutting device for breaking down cartons.
- Frequent lifting and moving up to 50 lb and occasional lifting overhead up to 10 lb.
- Vision requirements: depth perception and focus adjustment; tolerance to typical warehouse temperatures.
Must reside within commuting distance of Sparrows Point, MD facility.
ScheduleMonday–Thursday, 5:00 p.m. – 3:30 a.m.
RelocationNo relocation will be provided.
Base Compensation$25.50–$31.90 USD hourly.
