Position Summary
Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation is hiring for a Temporary Venue Operations Assistant. This position will be located at Grady Cole Center and American Legion Memorial Stadium and will assist with athletic event logistics, working closely with event staff including public address announcer, scoreboard operator, parking staff and security. The role also involves athletic field and facility maintenance, such as goals, nets, press box and general grounds maintenance.
Incumbents may operate the scoreboard, clock and sound equipment position requires a varying schedule, including daytime hours, evenings, weekends and possible holidays.
The Grady Cole Center (3,000‑capacity civic center) and American Legion Memorial Stadium (10,000‑seat stadium) are large‑scale public assembly rental venues owned and operated by Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department. The facilities lie adjacent to each other on a 12‑acre parcel of land within Central Piedmont Community College’s Central Campus in uptown Charlotte.
Preferred Qualifications- Event venue operations experience highly preferred
- Facility/grounds maintenance experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Load and unload heavy material from trucks and vans
- Assist in moving furniture or equipment and large bulky objects
- Perform building maintenance such as checking fire extinguishers, changing light bulbs and unclogging toilets
- Perform general custodial work
- Perform general groundskeeping such as picking up trash and debris, shoveling snow and mowing the grass
- Perform general laborer‑type work such as digging ditches
Experience:
No experience required
High School Diploma or equivalent
Licenses and CertificationsRequires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges
Computer SkillsGeneral knowledge of applicable computer programs
Knowledge- Light equipment used in maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction
- Occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this equipment
- Basic tools used in maintenance and construction work
- Operating a chainsaw and brush cutter, blowers, sweepers and other assigned equipment
- Performing heavy manual labor, sometimes in adverse weather conditions
