This position is responsible for cleaning equipment; performing basic maintenance of equipment, grounds, and facilities; performing manual labor; assisting with projects that require semi-skilled labor; providing customer service; and keeping records and reporting maintenance needs to higher authority that fall outside of the scope of the work assigned.
Performing vehicle pre/post trip inspections; monitoring and replenishing fluids; performing basic corrective repairs
Assisting with asphalt, concrete, stormwater and street cleaning operations and/or projects
Operating pavement breakers; jumping jack tampers; pneumatic, air and electric drills; jackhammers
Performing manual labor on projects by assisting in excavation work by hand digging ditches and trenches; back filling; compacting and leveling earth to required grade; construction landscaping
Assisting with traffic control device installation and flagging operations for stationary and moving work zones
Assisting crews by handling materials and cleaning debris or hazards from worksites
Assisting with vehicle and equipment maintenance by inspecting; greasing; cleaning interior and exterior; checking fluid levels and filling as required
Signaling operators to facilitate alignment, movement and adjustment of machinery, equipment and materials
Transporting vehicles to/from repair facilities
Submitting neat and complete written and/or electronic records including times sheets, maintenance history report forms, pre/post trip inspection forms and other cost records as needed.
Checking and cleaning basins
Utilizing performance management system to document own work progress and performance
Performing other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications & ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GED equivalent.
One year of related experience operating tools used in maintenance.
NC Class C Driver's License required.
Additional Preferred SkillsCDL is not required but is preferred.
Familiar with rebuilding manhole/basins, placing structures and cleaning of pipes and culverts.
Ability to operate tamp.
Experience working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of roadways.
Position designated as a Group 1, meaning it is critical to emergency operations and must be able to report to work in spite of or because of an emergency or disaster event.
Subject to stand-by/recall and after hours work.
Able to operate service truck and/or dump truck outfitted with plow based upon class of license possessed during winter weather operations.
