FLSA STATUS: Full-Time, non-exempt, benefiteligible
POSITION GRADE/LEVEL

RATE RANGE
:
Pay range is $25.89 to $33.58 per hour, in 8 steps.
LOCATION:Duxbury DPW, Highway Department
WORK SCHEDULE
:40 hours per week, plus additional hours as participation in Town-wide weatheror emergency operations is required.

1. Nature of Work:
Performs skilled work within the Department of Public Works as determined and assigned by a Manager or Superintendent inthe Public Works Department Performs skilled work within the Vehicle Maintenance department.
2. Supervision Received:
Receives instructions andwork specifications from Leadman, Foreman, Operations Manager or DPW Director and communicates to fellow workers. Works under the supervision of an employee of ahigher grade who assigns work, reviews performance for skill and efficiency,and assists in cases of difficulty.
3. Supervisory Responsibility:
Supervises temporaryor seasonal employees as assigned.
4. Confidentiality:
Employee has regular access to confidential information of the department. Confidentiality must be maintained with regard to this information in accordance with Department Policy and the Public Records Act.
5. Accountability:
Consequences or errors, missed deadlines orpoor judgment may include adverse public relations, monetary loss, legalrepercussions, labor/material costs, personal injury, jeopardize programs, anddanger to public health/safety.
6. Judgment:
Guidelines may be given verbally, or throughadministrative or organizational policies, or directives. Employee is expected to weigh efficiency and relative priorities in performing tasks.
7. Complexity:
The work consists of the practicalapplication of a variety of concepts, practices and specialized techniques relating to custodial and maintenance work.
8. Nature and Purpose of Public Contact:
Employeeinteracts frequently with Town employees and the public. Customer service skills are required involving courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.

Essential Functions:
The essential functionsor duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various typeof work that may be performed. Theomission of specific statement of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or logical assignment to the position.
- Uses extensive knowledge and skill for repair, maintenance and modification of truck earth-moving equipment and automobiles used in the various divisional work assignments.
- Analyses malfunctions and performs routine maintenance work as necessary
- Suggests modifications to equipment for safer and more efficient operation, constructs and installs as directed.
- Operates equipment and performs tasks required oflower-rated employees
- Obtains tools, equipment and additional manpower in accordance with task requirements
- May be required to perform specialized tasks not assignedto lower ranked employees
- Performs proper maintenance and inspections on the equipment and as needed
- Operation of and ordinary maintenance of equipment(trucks, tractors, power mowers and other tools of the trade), instructs employees in the correct and proper usage of same
- Maintains vehicle records
- Creates plans and work schedules assuring that work is performed in a safe and efficient manner and that all tools equipment and materials are available andwell maintained
- Must possess considerable knowledge of vehicle maintenance practices, methods and procedures and a demonstrated ability to lead and motivate other employees.
- Must havethe ability to deal tactfully and effectively with fellow employees,supervisors and general public.
- Participates in town-wide snow and ice removal operations
- Trainsnew employees in performing assigned duties.
Education and Experience:
High School or Technical School diploma orG.E.D. with three (3) years of related work experience required, Associates Degree in advanced automotive technology preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and…
