Supervisory Controls
The supervisor or foreman within the department assigns work. Work is spot‑checked in progress and reviewed when completed for accuracy, nature, and propriety of the final results.

ComplexityThe work consists of working on tasks assigned within the scope of maintaining athletic fields and athletic areas.
Scope and EffectThe purpose of this position is to perform manual labor in the areas of landscape maintenance for areas throughout the City. Successful performance helps ensure safe and efficient Parks & Recreation services, as well projecting a positive public image for the City.

Purpose of ContactsContacts are typically accessed to exchange information and provide services.
Physical DemandsThe work is typically performed with the employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee must frequently lift light and heavy objects of up to 100 pounds, equipment and material, climb ladders, and use tools or equipment requiring a moderate degree of dexterity.
Work EnvironmentThe work is typically performed outdoors. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, irritating chemicals, machinery with moving parts, and occasional hot, cold or inclement weather. This work may require the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles or gloves.
Supervisory and Management ResponsibilityNone.
Responsibilities- Maintains athletic fields
- Prepares fields for games and other events
- Provides turf management
- Maintains common area cleanliness
- Performs landscape maintenance
- Maintains recreation facilities to include general janitorial duties
- Operates Parks & Recreation equipment such as lawn tractors, mowers and trucks
- Maintains and makes minor repairs to equipment
- Assists in semi‑skilled work by handling tools, carrying or lifting objects and performing simple repairs
- Runs errands or other communication for the department
- Performs a variety of other heavy manual work in connection with maintenance of athletic fields and landscape areas
- Collects and disposes of debris, trash, etc. which may be a result of the job
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Possession of a valid Georgia Driver’s License
- Knowledge of City and department policies and procedures
- Knowledge of safety rules and regulations
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety standards and practices applicable to work being conducted
- Skill in the operation, maintenance, and routine repair of equipment
- Skill in performing various manual labor assignments as needed
- Ability to perform general equipment/tool maintenance duties
- Ability to interpret instructions and efficiently carry them out with general supervision
- Ability to perform tasks involving manual labor
- Ability to communicate effectively with co‑workers, the general public and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
