Maintenance Technician - Sauget, IL
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving facility equipment and infrastructure to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role supports fertilizer loading systems, bulk conveying equipment, pumps, motors, automation systems, and facility assets. The Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in minimizing downtime, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining a safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform maintenance tasks in the outlined strategies including and not limited to preventative maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance and assessment (PdMA), condition-based maintenance (CBM), emergency maintenance (EM), planned / scheduled maintenance (PSM), reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), precision lubrication (PL), material fabrication and layout (FaL), precision maintenance (PrM).
- Conduct assessments on all facility systems and equipment to include and not limited to conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, valves, pneumatic systems, approved electrical, hydraulic systems, loading equipment, powered industrial truck and rail moving equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
- Diagnose and repair electrical systems within scope of training and certification.
- Replace worn or defective parts using appropriate tools and procedures.
- Maintain and repair bulk material handling and transfer conveyance systems.
Inspection & Reliability:
- Conduct routine inspections of facility equipment and infrastructure.
- Generate and complete taskings and work orders in accordance with the facility maintenance strategies and computer managed maintenance systems (CMMS).
- Identify wear patterns, safety hazards, and mechanical deficiencies. Initiate report and repairs when identified.
- Document maintenance activities and findings accurately. See repair and corrective action through completion.
- Support predictive, preventative and precision maintenance programs in accordance with strategies to maintain.
Safety & Compliance:
- Follow all OSHA, environmental, and company safety standards.
- Adhere to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Ensure equipment is operating within compliance standards.
- Participate in safety meetings and required training.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions or incidents.
Facility & Infrastructure Support:
- Perform structural repairs and general building maintenance.
- Maintain lighting, walkways, platforms, and safety guarding.
- Support capital improvement projects and equipment installations.
- Assist Operators and Laborers with mechanical troubleshooting when needed.

- Assist with vendor coordination for specialized repairs.
- Participate in continuous improvement and reliability initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Cross train facility staff in safe, accurate, and efficient equipment maintenance, system trouble shooting and repair.

Performance in this role will be evaluated using measurable metrics, including but not limited to:
Safety Performance:
- Zero preventable safety incidents.
- 100% compliance with PPE requirements.
- Timely reporting of hazards and near misses.
- Completion of all required safety training within deadlines stipulated.
Equipment Reliability & Downtime:
- Meet or exceed preventative maintenance completion rate (≥ 95% on-time PM completion).
- Reduce unplanned downtime and emergency downtime within department benchmarks.
- Maintain equipment uptime percentage targets established by facility leadership.
- Average response time to maintenance calls within established shift standards.
Quality of Work:
- First-time fix rate ≥ 90%.
- Accurate and timely maintenance documentation (100% completion).
- Minimal rework due to incomplete or improper repairs.
- Maintain spare parts accountability, tool kitting, and inventory accuracy.
Productivity & Cost Control:
- Complete assigned work orders within expected labor hours.
- Support reduction in maintenance-related waste or material loss.
- Adhere to maintenance budget guidelines when applicable.
