QUALIFICATIONS:

Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the tasks assigned.

The ability to communicate in verbal or written form.

Three written and verified references on file.

Previous training or experience preferred.

Valid Maryland driver's license.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Head Custodian and Plant Operations Supervisor

JOB GOAL: To provide students, parents, and teachers with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play, and obtain an education.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Cleans and maintains all areas of assigned responsibility including, sweeps, mops, wet-washes, buffs, burnishes, and vacuums floors.

Dusts furniture, cleans and polishes fixtures, washes windows, scrubs and disinfects toilet rooms.

Lifts and carries items in excess of 50 pounds on a regular basis.

Reports any unusual conditions or malfunctioning of heating, plumbing, or electrical system, as soon as they are discovered.

Conducts inspection of doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.

Completes all preventive maintenance tasks as assigned.

Assists in ice and snow removal.

Complies with local and state laws in the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.

Attends safety, maintenance, and custodial meetings as requested by Head Custodian, School Manager, Principal, or Plant Operations Supervisor.

Assists Head Custodian in checking fire alarm system and assumes responsibility for the general fire safety and general security of the building.

Performs emergency repair or cleaning services as necessary.

Keeps building clear of people not on official school business and assists law enforcement officers as directed by Principal.

Checks interior and exterior lighting.

Reports any violations of exterior parking rules and regulations.

Assists in the maintenance and care of the school grounds.

Performs other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Non-exempt position. Twelve month work year.
