Assistant Branch Manager. This position does not supervise staff but may supervise volunteers.

Responsibilities
  • Essential Duties:
    Use custodial equipment to perform interior custodial work; maintain restrooms in clean and sanitary condition; wash and clean windows, light fixtures, and items requiring ladders; clean and polish desks, chairs, tables, cabinets and other furniture; collect and dispose of trash and recyclables.
  • Maintain exterior of the building including entryways and sidewalks (litter disposal, sweeping, leaf blowing, salting, snow shoveling).
  • Identify safety hazards and report to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Light maintenance such as changing bulbs, repairing minor items, and minor repairs as requested.
  • Set up and breakdown of furniture for library events, including rooms, moving equipment and supplies.
  • Unload and store supplies; maintain inventory of janitorial supplies; request supplies through branch staff responsible for ordering.
  • Understand water shutoff, breakers, and building-related functions; keep loading dock organized.
  • Monitor entryways and parking lot conditions in inclement weather; coordinate with supervisor on conditions; direct contractors as needed.
  • Travel between branches to provide coverage as necessary; report as essential personnel.
Standard Functions
  • Serve on committees and participate in workshops and training as requested.
  • Notify supervisor with suggestions to improve efficiency and procedures; support system-wide goals.
  • Learns new skills and technologies to retain proficiency.
  • Be dependable and punctual; maintain a positive, friendly, cooperative attitude and provide consistent customer service.
  • Uphold library policies and procedures; perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED preferred; minimum completion of 9th grade.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand instructions, including work procedures, labels, safety data sheets, and equipment instructions.
  • One year of experience in custodial, mechanical trade, or related area.
  • Valid Maryland driver’s license with no more than 3 points; ability to provide documentation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a favorable criminal background check.
  • Ability to work day, evening, and weekend hours.
  • Basic computer skills (email, internet searches, self-service portal).
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to understand verbal instructions and safety procedures.
  • Operate vacuums and related equipment; safely use cleaning supplies.
  • Use hand tools, leaf blower; perform minor repairs and light maintenance.
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle; set up and move furniture; work outdoors.
  • Adaptable, flexible, patient with customers and staff; strong verbal and written communication; basic math skills.
Work Environment
  • Heavy physical effort up to 60 pounds; more than 70% of job is physical work; continuous standing; safe workplace practices.
  • May travel between locations; may work in adverse weather, dirt, dust, and odors.
