Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician II performs general cleaning and routine maintenance of City-owned buildings, park grounds, recreation facilities including snow removal duties.

Working days for this position are Tuesday through Saturday.

Scope of Impact

The Maintenance Technician II
- Parks performs in accordance with established policies and procedures. The duties and responsibilities of this job are performed with latitude for independent judgement in accordance with Department and City policies, Federal, State and Local regulations and are based on detailed knowledge of Department operations. Work is subject to periodic review by the supervisor, who provides input on, and approval of, recommendations, and discusses assignments, priorities, and work.

The Park Maintenance Technician II supervises temporary seasonal workers assigned to assist with the work. Work can affect the safety and appearance of parks and facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Perform general cleaning of parks and facilities using equipment such as vacuums, buffers, and carpet cleaners.
    • Collect waste and recyclables for disposal.
    • Clean and shampoo carpets.
    • Ensure restrooms are sanitized and supplies are stocked.
    • Mop floors and clean walls, desk counters, glass, and all hard surfaces.
    • Sweep and shovel outside entrances.
    • Replace and properly dispose of light bulbs and tubes.
    • Respond to immediate cleaning needs.
    • Clean and sanitize spills and biohazard waste.
    • Order and stock custodial supplies, paper, and kitchen supplies.
  • Support Park facility rental reservations and events.
    • Set up, schedule, and prepare for public and private rentals.
    • Collaborate with the Administrative Coordinator to schedule rentals.
    • Use mobile technology to review rental schedule.
    • Ensure rental facilities are appropriately set up and cleaned prior to public use.
  • Perform various maintenance duties using light hand tools, including snow removal at assigned locations.
    • Maintain cleaning equipment.
    • Troubleshoot plumbing and other mechanical issues.
    • Repair door and lock issues.
    • Paint and stain.
    • Utilize work order system and submit tickets.
  • Provide on‑site support during after‑hours and weekend contractor work, ensuring building access, observing work in progress, and addressing any issues that arise.
  • Act as a liaison to other vendors and users of building during off‑hours.
  • Assist setup for rentals, gatherings, and elections.
  • Communicate courteously, professionally, and maintain working relationships with others; convey basic information to the public when approached with questions.
  • Perform all job duties in compliance with safety guidelines and maintain ongoing awareness of safety practices; wear proper protective equipment when policy requires or conditions indicate a need exists and use proper body mechanics and ergonomics while performing work.
  • Perform other duties and activities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

The job requires a high school diploma or equivalent. The job requires the ability to read instructions, calculate proportions, and communicate verbally with the public or City employees. The employee must have and maintain a valid driver's license.

Desired Qualifications

One or more years of custodial experience and experience working with the public are preferred.

Skills and Abilities

Required for Successful Job Performance
  • Knowledge of general cleaning supplies and their appropriate use.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Safety regulations related to custodial work and chemicals.
  • Knowledge of proper lifting techniques.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use power cleaning tools and equipment.
  • Verbal communication skills sufficient to provide basic information to co‑workers and the public.
  • Reading skills to understand labeling and written instructions.
  • Ability to utilize provided mobile technology for rental schedule and learn and utilize Civic Rec software.
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to exchange and/or convey information, receive work direction, and maintain effective working relationships with others.
