Job Summary
The Summer Maintenance Helper supports the CJO Plant maintenance and operations team with routine maintenance, housekeeping, and grounds activities during the summer months. This position assists skilled maintenance and plant staff with non‑technical tasks, helping to ensure plant facilities, equipment areas, and grounds remain clean, safe, and well‑maintained. This role provides hands‑on exposure to an industrial utility environment and works under close supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist maintenance staff with general plant and facility upkeep, including cleaning, organizing, and preparing work areas.
- Perform grounds maintenance such as mowing, trimming, weeding, sweeping, and debris removal.
- Assist with vehicle and equipment inspection.
- Retrieve tools, materials, and equipment needed for routine preventive maintenance activities. Assist with painting, basic repairs, and minor facility improvements under supervision.
- Maintain clean and safe work spaces, including walkways, storage areas, and common areas.
- Perform equipment and area clean downs following maintenance work.
- Assist with material handling, including moving supplies and disposing of waste properly.
- Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and plant security protocols.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support plant maintenance.
- High School Diploma/GED, or currently enrolled in a vocational, technical, or college program preferred.
- Ability to perform physical work indoors and outdoors, including lifting, bending, standing, and walking for extended periods.
- Basic familiarity with hand tools is a plus (training provided).
- Willingness to follow instructions and work safely in an industrial environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Salary Range: $16.00 – $17.50 per hour.
- Pay for holidays that fall during assignment.
- Work is performed at an active water treatment facility.
- Exposure to weather conditions, noise, and industrial equipment.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Summer schedule based on operational needs.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. All candidates must successfully pass a drug screen, pre‑employment physical, background check, and possess a valid driver’s license in good standing (if required for the position).
