Job Summary
The Ground Support Equipment Mechanic diagnoses malfunctions and repairs ground support equipment (GSE), advises and trains lower grade workers, inspects, and approves maintenance actions, and uses automated maintenance data systems to monitor trends. The position requires performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on GSE, inspecting, testing, and operating GSE to determine serviceability, servicing equipment with fuel, oil, coolant, and other fluids, diagnosing mechanical and electronic circuitry malfunctions, disassembling and reassembling GSE components, applying corrosion treatments, marking GSE per technical publications, and maintaining GSE for storage and mobility deployment.
The role includes dispatching GSE, supporting aircraft maintenance and operations, and ensuring safety, housekeeping, tool control, and foreign object damage prevention.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical malfunctions in GSE.
- Train and mentor lower grade workers on troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Inspect, test, and verify GSE serviceability before deployment.
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air systems.
- Disassemble, reassemble, clean, treat for corrosion, and reinstall GSE components and accessories.
- Mark and stencil GSE following technical publications.
- Maintain and update paper and electronic equipment records.
- Dispatch and position GSE to support aircraft maintenance and flying operations.
- Practice good housekeeping, tool control, and foreign object damage prevention.
- Operate, clean, inspect, and service GSE towing vehicles.
- Ensure compliance with state, local, and federal environmental standards.
- 4+ years of experience on GSE or equivalent equipment.
- Familiarity with FRC rework procedures, publications, and schematics.
- Diesel and electrical mechanic experience.
- Experience with Ground Operations Procedures (GOP) for Depot Level FRC ASE.
- Proficiency with special tools and equipment required for tasks.
- Ability to read, understand, and implement operational, safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
- U.S. Citizen, high school graduate or equivalent.
- Capacity to lift 50 pounds and have a valid driver’s license.
- Pre‑employment drug screening required.
- Must obtain Department of the Navy Local Population /Base Access Pass Registration.
- English language proficiency (read, write, speak).
- Experience and training in inspection, maintenance, and repair of GSE.
- Ability to work efficiently with minimum supervision.
The hourly rate is $37.61 per hour, plus $7.50 per hour for health & welfare up to 40 hours per week.
