Position: Field Engineer I - Structured Cabling

Job Summary

Field Engineer - Structured Cabling will be able to install and operate most types of low‑voltage/structured cabling systems and equipment.

General

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment problems in a senior service support role, including testing, troubleshooting system components, and field verification of connections, labels, installation, and work quality.
  • Understand advanced system drawings, specifications and technical manuals, and create shop drawings and submittals for new project kick‑off.
  • Manage the technical work in the field with little supervision.
  • Perform work both in‑house and in the field when required.
  • Assume ownership of project installation, supporting field staff and the project manager, and provide advanced support for field installation staff.
  • Assist with maintaining and completing project punch‑list for project close‑outs.
  • Oversee the technical aspects of projects.
  • Quality‑check projects, test all equipment and functionality, and create punch lists.
  • Assist sales staff as needed with product and system demonstrations.
  • Handle other responsibilities as assigned.
Compensation

Min: USD $32.00/Hr.

Max: USD $35.00/Hr.

Qualifications Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Self‑motivated, positive, professional, and able to lead others to implement project process improvement(s).

  • Proven problem‑solving and critical thinking skills, and the ability to effectively read, write and give oral presentations.
  • Diagnose and fix problems with existing equipment and new installs.
  • Enthusiastic, passionate, patient, and a critical thinker.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to communicate with the customer.
  • High skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including specifications, reporting and quality requirements.
  • Able to travel within branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.
Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED equivalency;
    Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • At least 3‑4 years of commercial low‑voltage/structured cabling experience.
  • Ability to work well with other people.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project).
  • Meet Company minimum driving standards.
  • Manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated verifiable ability to define a project, create a project scope of work, develop detailed associated tasks and manage these to final completion and customer turnover.
