Job SummaryMaintain operation efficiency of automated assembly lines by performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing automation equipment. Provide support to shift operations as requested by the shift leader or production manager and develop long‑term predictive/preventive maintenance plans for all assembly equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of all automation equipment during production and perform scheduled preventative maintenance.
- Assist with installation, set‑up, and validation of incoming automation equipment.
- Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test, and adjust.
- Interface with PLCs of all equipment to troubleshoot and optimize processes.
- Work with Control Engineers on special projects, process improvements, and updates.
- Assist maintenance technicians on repairs outside of automation scope as needed.
- Maintain spare parts inventory with proper cataloging.
- Notify shift lead of maintenance issues and downtime in a timely manner.
- Review line history and documentation to enhance line efficiencies and follow escalation plans to minimize downtime.
- Actively participate in and comply with West HSE programs and regulations.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work environment in accordance with the West 5S program.
- Assist with training and development of personnel at all levels on new processes or systems introduced to the company.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED required; trade or vocational school preferred.
- One (1) year certificate from a technical school or college in a trade relating to automation, electrical, pneumatic or mechanical; or a minimum of 3‑5 years of OJT experience related to plant automation; or a combination of education and experience in a related trade. PLC troubleshooting experience required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience related to plant automation; or a combination of education and experience in a related trade. PLC troubleshooting experience required.
- Familiarity with relevant SOPs as per company policy.
- Support and contribute to Lean Sigma programs and activities towards delivery of set targets.
- Compliance with the company’s safety and quality policies at all times.
10%: up to 26 business days per year.
Physical RequirementsMedium‑exerting work: up to 50 lb (22 kg) of force occasionally and/or up to 20 lb (9 kg) frequently, or up to 10 lb (4 kg) constantly to move objects.
Additional Requirements- Frequent use of hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Specific vision abilities: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Work near moving mechanical parts; occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, electrical shock, and vibration.
- Work schedule may include overtime, weekends, or call‑in duties.
- Noise level is moderate to loud; hearing protection required on the manufacturing floor.
- Exposure to heat and cold.
- Fast‑paced environment; self‑starter required with minimal direction.
- Communication, decision‑making, interpreting data, reading or writing, organization, problem solving, and understanding directions are essential mental skills.
- 8‑hour shift schedule with overtime when needed, including weekends, or call‑in work.
- 12‑hour shift schedule, including every other weekend and overtime when needed, or call‑in work.
Training will take place during day shift for several weeks before moving to a 2‑2‑3‑2 night shift schedule (5:45 PM – 6:00 AM).
