Job OverviewThe Field Service Technician is responsible for providing field technical support for IR products, striving to be customer focused, fully responsive and successful in meeting the 24/7 technical service needs of customers. The role develops collaborative relationships within IR to become the go‑to knowledge source for technical field service. The job also carries incentive plans paid out annually.
Responsibilities- Provide technical support at customers’ sites during repair and installation of IR equipment to ensure standards and integrity.
- Follow safe work practices, report safety incidents and near misses promptly and maintain a goal of zero lost time incidents.
- Improve customer responsiveness by making sales calls, conducting technical walk‑downs, and providing solutions that distinguish IR proposals and capabilities.
- Complete required reports – Service Reports, Customer Call Reports, Expense Reports and Time Sheets – on a timely basis to enable accurate invoicing.
- Suggest improvements to processes and procedures to reduce customer response time and improve data accuracy.
- Comply with Department Guidelines and Procedures to maintain appropriate service standards.
- Maintain proficiency with vibration analysis and laser alignment equipment for balancing and testing.
- Generate sales leads from customers who could benefit from additional support, collect CRM data, and provide information to Sales for opportunities while improving global visibility of IR Aftermarket.
- 3+ years of relevant technical background, including millwright, maintenance, engineering, field service or equivalent experience.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle background check, as the role includes an assigned vehicle.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent collaboration, time management and organization.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Critical thinking, problem solving and conflict resolution.
- High moral and ethical standards with integrity.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Effective working in a virtual environment.
- Some technical schooling or coursework toward a technical degree.
- Prior positions with increasing responsibility and leadership.
- Experience specifying replacement parts for highly engineered equipment.
- Experience in industrial sales or technical selling.
- Troubleshooting vibration, system and aerodynamic problems in equipment.
Up to 80% travel, with possibility of international travel.
Pay Range$65,000 – $85,000 per year, based on skills, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and geographic location.
