Accountant (Payroll) – Elk Grove Village, IL
$78,000 – $88,000 + full benefits medical/dental/401k/ generous PTO/ Hybrid
We are a leading paper goods manufacturer based in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, producing high-quality tissues, paper towels, napkins, and other essential household products. Our mission is to deliver reliable, sustainable, and innovative paper solutions to homes and businesses nationwide, while maintaining operational excellence and strong financial stewardship. As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Accountant to join our finance team and play a key role in supporting payroll, cost accounting, and overall financial operations.
Role OverviewThis Accountant will work closely with operations and finance leadership to ensure accurate and timely accounting across multiple functions. Key areas of focus include payroll, manufacturing cost tracking, general ledger maintenance, and expense management.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and process bi-weekly payroll, including review, reporting, and compliance with applicable laws and company policies
- Assist in cost accounting for manufacturing operations, tracking labor, material, and overhead costs, analyzing variances, and supporting inventory accounting
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date general ledger accounts; reconcile balance sheet accounts on a regular basis
- Prepare and post journal entries and supporting schedules for month-end and year-end close
- Review, code, and reconcile employee and operational expense reports
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable as needed, ensuring invoices are accurate and paid on time
- Support budget preparation and tracking, including monitoring actual costs versus budgeted figures
- Generate reports and analysis to help management make informed financial and operational decisions
- Partner with production and operations teams to improve cost visibility, streamline processes, and enhance reporting accuracy
- Support internal controls, audits, and compliance initiatives
- Assist with ad-hoc accounting and financial projects as business needs arise
- Help identify opportunities for process improvements within payroll, accounting, and reporting workflows
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- Minimum 2 years of accounting experience, ideally in manufacturing (paper goods or similar industries preferred)
- Payroll processing experience is required
- Knowledge of cost accounting, inventory, and production-related financial activity a plus
- Strong understanding of general ledger processes and month-end close procedures
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting/ERP systems
