Job Type: Full-Time | In-Office
Salary: $160,000+
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM
Tax Season: Approximately 60 hours/week, Monday–Saturday
PTO: 5 Weeks
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager and CPA to join a well-established public accounting firm in Elk Grove Village, IL. This is a high-impact opportunity for a tax professional who enjoys working directly with clients, managing complex engagements, developing tax strategies, and mentoring accounting professionals.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Trust & Estate taxation, high-net-worth individuals, and pass-through entities
, along with exposure to clients in industries such as manufacturing, construction, and nonprofit organizations
.
This position offers significant autonomy, direct client interaction, leadership opportunities, and the ability to develop a specialized area of expertise within a growing accounting practice.
What You'll Do- Manage larger and more complex tax engagements and special assignments.
- Review tax returns for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Manage multiple engagements while maintaining deadlines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Oversee the preparation and review of tax returns, with an emphasis on high-net-worth individuals, trusts and estates, and pass-through entities
. - Develop and implement tax planning strategies for clients.
- Research tax laws, regulations, and technical tax questions.
- Build and maintain strong, long‑term client relationships.
- Communicate engagement status, tax matters, financial information, and recommendations directly with clients.
- Supervise, mentor, train, and provide constructive feedback to staff.
- Coordinate engagement planning, budgeting, staffing, and resource allocation.
- Identify client needs and opportunities for additional services.
- Assist partners with business development, client retention, and firm initiatives.
- Develop industry or functional specialization.
- Help identify solutions to complex client issues and oversee implementation.
- Participate in client meetings, seminars, and other professional activities.
This position is designed to grow into a significant leadership role. After approximately 8–10 months
, the Tax Manager is expected to take on responsibility for 2–3 direct reports
, including mentoring, workload management, training, and performance development.
Required:
- Active CPA license – mandatory
- Tax Manager-level experience in public accounting.
- Strong experience with Trust & Estate taxation
. - Experience with high-net-worth individual taxation.
- Experience with pass-through entities.
- Strong tax research, planning, and technical skills.
- Experience reviewing complex tax returns.
- Demonstrated ability to manage client engagements and deadlines.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, or developing accounting staff.
- Strong communication and client relationship skills.
- Ability to travel locally to client facilities and meetings using a personal vehicle.
Preferred:
- Experience serving manufacturing, construction, and/or nonprofit clients
. - Experience with CCH tax software
. - Experience with Quick Books Online
. - Experience with business development, cross-selling, or client expansion.
Standard
Schedule:
Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM
Tax Season:
January 1–April 15
Approximately 60 hours per week, Monday–Saturday
Regular same-day travel to client facilities, meetings, and seminars is required. Occasional overnight travel may be necessary.
Candidates must have reliable personal transportation for business travel.
