Set Up Technician Position Overview

Responsible for operating and setting up all equipment in the department. Responsible for set‑ups, program changes, and minor equipment maintenance. Incumbents are considered top of their field by being able to successfully troubleshoot all equipment and use their expertise to solve problems and eliminate scrap, rework, and downtime. Should be actively involved in Continuous Improvement Teams within the area to promote safety, quality, throughput, and the addition of any new equipment.

Trains all lower‑level operators and is considered a leader in the plant. May serve as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues.

• Operate/set up all machinery safely.
• Set up equipment for all product types, inspect tooling, and make programming changes as needed; repair or maintain all tooling and dies.
• Actively participate in Continuous Improvement within the area to promote safety, quality, throughput, and new equipment additions.
• Troubleshoot equipment to determine and resolve problems.
• Inspect finished parts for gauge thickness, defects, and proper fit‑up.
• Lead the department if the group leader is absent.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Intermediate ability to troubleshoot equipment.
• Mechanical aptitude required.
• Physical stamina to handle repetitive work, stand on feet for 8‑12 hours, lift or move up to 30 pounds, bend, squat, and reach with hands and arms.
• Ability to read, follow detailed instructions, understand English, and distinguish between part numbers and sizes.
• Ability to read and work with blueprints; build and repair tooling and dies.
• Ability to train, coordinate, and communicate effectively with all departments.
• Ability to troubleshoot and manipulate programs.
• Understand and follow the quality policy and procedures – detect defects and follow all safety policies and procedures.

• Noise level usually moderate.
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts.
• Frequently required lifting or moving up to 30 pounds.
• Frequently required standing, bending, squatting, and reaching with hands and arms.
• Regularly required to stand for extended periods, walk, talk, and hear.
• Ability to use hand tools and read applicable instructions.
