Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Building Facilities Project Manager, the Building Facilities HVAC Engineer supports the Facilities Division to ensure smooth operations and maintenance of all HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire/life/safety, emergency generators, and the use of our energy management system. The Engineer also performs seasonal maintenance of grounds including sprinkler systems and snow removal. Work is performed inside and outside a secure jail.
EssentialDuties And Responsibilities
- Troubleshoots and repairs systems related to HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire/life/safety, elevators, emergency generators, pneumatic control, and energy management; assists in performing inspections of this equipment and documenting the results.
- Responsible for maintenance and repair of Building Facilities equipment, light vehicle, appliances, and cleaning equipment.
- Monitors supply inventories and departmental equipment condition to maintain proper stock and distribute to county staff as required.
- Works with supervisor to develop daily, weekly, and monthly work plans.
- Performs routine inspections, repairs, and installations of fixtures, appliances, and building systems.
- Diagnoses and repairs problems within County Properties; reports larger issues to supervisor.
- Performs seasonal grounds maintenance.
- Engages in light construction such as patching, painting, and assembly.
- Communicates daily with supervisor.
- Assists Building Facilities Technicians with routine security/alarms, sprinkler systems, and lock systems.
- Ensures all work is performed adhering to safety and security procedures regarding buildings and ground maintenance, including snow and ice removal, door security, alarms, and appropriate equipment inspection.
- Develops and maintains respectful and cooperative working relationships.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance according to the department’s work schedule.
- Associate’s Degree or Two‑Year post‑secondary education required, plus a minimum of 3 years relevant work experience.
- Boiler’s License 2nd Class C, upon hire.
- Universal Refrigeration License, upon hire.
- Training or experience in equipment repair and maintenance is required.
- Must successfully complete pre‑employment physical examination to ensure ability to perform essential functions of the job.
- Position works with cleaning chemicals, vehicle maintenance fluids and solvents, and in all weather conditions including grounds keeping and ice and snow removal.
- Requires long hours and/or being called out to ensure ice and snow are removed prior to or after normal business hours.
- Work hazards include chemicals, infectious materials, lifting, repeated movement, noise, fumes, and odors.
- Ability to lift 1–50 pounds continuously, 51–75 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to push/pull up to 50 pounds continuously and 50–100 pounds occasionally.
- Non‑sedentary job requiring walking, climbing and vehicle operation continuously.
- Work Schedule:
Monday‑Friday 8 – 4:30, 40 hours per week. This position is part of the on‑call rotation, typically a 5‑week rotation.
