- Position FTE: 1.00 full-time, hourly non‑exempt
This position is responsible for maintaining county grounds, facilities and equipment in a safe and efficient manner following current federal, state and local standards.
Responsibilities- Receive and follow maintenance schedule and instructions from the Facilities Foreman and/or Maintenance Technician IIIs.
- Enter and manage facilities related work orders and equipment service requests into Public Works information systems.
- Perform grounds maintenance including lawn mowing, trimming, snow shoveling, snow plowing and minor parking lot maintenance, as directed.
- Document daily activity in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Complete carpentry and painting jobs when needed.
- Replace burned out light bulbs, including exit lights, overhead lights, fluorescent lights, etc. as well as ballasts.
- Perform unscheduled maintenance.
- Report equipment malfunction or breakdowns to the Facilities Foreman and/or building Maintenance Technician III.
- Assist others with lifting heavy equipment, supplies, etc.
- Ensure that equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of a shift.
- Wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies (e.g., back brace, mechanical lifts, etc.) when lifting or moving heavy items.
- Follow proper techniques when mixing chemicals, disinfectants and solutions.
- Follow manufacturer’s recommendations for all equipment and products.
- Ensure that work and assignment areas are clean and equipment, tools, supplies, etc. are properly stored before leaving the area.
- Demonstrate a passion for caring, for the facilities and the people that use the county facilities, as evidenced by interaction with co‑workers and the public.
- Participate in and attend in‑service educational classes and on‑the‑job training programs, etc. as scheduled.
- Demonstrate a commitment to county safety and risk management efforts.
High school diploma and two to three years of relevant prior experience.
Requirements- Valid Wisconsin driver license.
- Must wear steel toe safety shoes. Employees in this position will receive an annual stipend for the purchase of safety shoes per Walworth County Ordinance Section 15‑394.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of building and grounds maintenance.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards involved and precautions necessary for safe operation of motor‑driven equipment, including operation over rough, slippery, icy or unstable conditions.
- Ability to interpret building plans, building operations, and maintenance manuals.
- Ability to understand, remember and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work overtime as required, including on‑call winter schedule from October 15th through April 15th.
- Ability to interact with computers, including mobile technology, to control building equipment and document maintenance activities in the CMMS.
- Ability to learn new computer systems necessary for the performance of the job.
