Position: Facilities & Parks Seasonal Laborer - Grounds Crew (Public Works)

Position Summary

Do you enjoy the outdoors? Are you looking to stay active while earning some extra money? The Walworth County Public Works Department is looking to hire a Parks Seasonal Laborer to assist in the maintenance of Walworth County parks and grounds. Seasonal Laborers will operate various types of small equipment and machinery to perform basic tasks while meeting departmental safety policies and procedures.

Normal operating hours for the Public Works Department are Monday
- Friday, 7:00 a.m.

- 3:30 p.m. with a shift in hours for the division to 6:00 a.m.

- 2:30 p.m. during the summer season. The expectation is that this position will work 20 - 40 hours per week. This is a limited term position with the expectation of working no more than 1200 hours in a year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

This job description reflects management's assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

Perform basic landscape and lawn care duties, such as mowing designated areas; planting trees, shrubs, flowers and grass seed; manual weed removal and pruning.

Assist with basic facilities operations, such as special event set-ups, office moves, and other general labor activities.

Clean buildings and restrooms and stock facilities as required.

Operate various light machinery and equipment.

Repair, maintain, paint and/or stain park buildings, structures, signs and equipment.

Remove garbage, litter and debris from buildings, parking lots and grounds.

Show respect and be willing to assist the public.

Perform other duties as required.

Demonstrate a commitment to county safety and risk management efforts.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will have completed a minimum of three years of high school and must possess a valid drivers license with a good driving record. Experience with commercial grade landscaping equipment is preferred. Candidates should possess the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions with minimal direct supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact when dealing with the public.
  • Ability to operate County vehicles in a safe and defensive manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working and public relations with co-workers, the public, vendors, and outside agencies.
  • Prompt and regular attendance is essential.

WISCONSIN RETIREMENT:
Employees expected to work less than 1200 hours per year will not receive this benefit. If an employee works 1200 hours, is employed for at least one year, and is not under 20 attending high school full-time. The employee will be expected to pay the employee portion. Walworth County will pay employer required contributions pursuant to state law.
