Affordable Dentures & Implants is looking for a compassionate, skilled
Dental Assistant / Lab Technician to join our growing team in Oak Park/Chicago, IL
. In this role you'll give chairside support during denture, implant and oral surgery treatment. You'll take preliminary impressions, help the dentist with denture adjustments and relines, and do lab-side denture work on the dentist's instructions. All duties are performed under the supervision of an Illinois-licensed dentist, following the Illinois Dental Practice Act.
Clinical / Chairside- Give patients outstanding care and a welcoming experience from check-in through treatment.
- Prepare operatories, instruments, equipment and materials before each appointment.
- Assist dentists during denture procedures, dental implant placement, oral surgery, extractions, and prosthetic treatments in accordance with state regulations.
- Explain the dentist's treatment plan, denture options, implant procedures, post-op instructions, home care and financial packages to patients.
- Collect and record medical histories, treatment information and clinical notes accurately.
- Take dental X-rays.
- Take preliminary alginate impressions for study models, opposing models and custom trays, under the dentist's direction.
- Select and prepare impression trays and materials for the dentist's final impressions.
- Prepare wax bite rims and assist the dentist when they record bite registrations.
- Assist the dentist with denture try-ins, insertions, in-mouth adjustments and chairside relines, including preparing and mixing reline materials.
- Make lab-side adjustments, such as relieving pressure spots the dentist has marked, and trim, finish and polish relined dentures on the dentist's instructions.
- Show patients how to wear, clean and care for their dentures, and explain what to expect after adjustments or relines.
- Coordinate denture cases between the operatory and the in-house lab so patients get timely care.
- Keep strict infection control and sterilization standards by cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing instruments, operatories and denture appliances.
- Track clinical inventory and help order supplies.
- Support daily office operations, including maintaining a clean, organized clinical environment.
- Take on other duties within Illinois dental assistant scope that support patient care and the office's success.
- 1+ year of dental assisting experience.
- Experience taking preliminary impressions and preparing wax bite rims.
- Experience assisting with denture adjustments, relines and repairs.
- Experience assisting with dentures, implants, oral surgery and extractions.
- Familiarity with dental practice management software and electronic patient records.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Strong communication and patient service skills.
- Good manual dexterity and attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment.
