Senior Resident Engineer Requirements & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • Registered Professional Engineer in Illinois
  • 15+ years of professional engineering experience
  • Demonstrated success as a Resident Engineer on major transportation projects
  • Current applicable DOT certification
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Senior Resident Engineer Preferred Background & Skills
  • Strong marketing or business development mindset
  • Excellent organizational change management skills
  • Proven ability to lead teams and foster collaboration across functions
Senior Resident Engineer Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Oversee construction and inspection teams on buildings, roads, and bridge projects to ensure compliance with client requirements and company standards
  • Provide expert guidance, technical leadership, and mentorship to staff
  • Manage project schedules and budgets, ensuring on-time and on-budget execution
  • Act as a key point of contact with clients, contractors, and stakeholders, facilitating clear communication and issue resolution
  • Chair pre-construction and progress meetings, review monthly pay estimates, and recommend approvals
  • Coordinate quality control, safety, materials testing, and documentation for assigned projects
  • Support business development activities and contribute to marketing efforts to grow client relationships
