THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION (9 MONTHS OR LESS) – PAYING $18.00 - $19.00 PER HOUR. EMPLOYMENT STARTS 03/01/2026 THROUGH 10/31/2026. This posting is for both Lead and Non Lead Inspector positions. NON LEAD Inspector
Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols at Limon Port of Entry near Limon, Colorado. Work independently or in pairs to inspect boats entering the State of Colorado with respect to invasive species such as zebra/quagga mussels. Provide public outreach by distributing printed material related to aquatic invasive species to visitors. The position reports directly to the inspection station supervisor.
Boat inspection training will be provided. Early morning, evening, and weekend work is required.
Lead Inspector
Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols at Cortez Point of Entry in Cortez, Colorado. The lead inspector provides on‑the‑job training to inspection staff, creates schedules, ensures shifts are covered during operational hours, and assists with payroll timekeeping records, inventory of supplies, and interviewing candidates. Additional responsibilities include working with the supervisor to resolve challenges with staff and customers, ensuring staff follow standardized protocols, ensuring accurate data entry by all staff, basic maintenance and troubleshooting on power washer/decontamination unit, and public outreach on aquatic invasive species.
Early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday work is required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Pursuant to the DNR-120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive, any worker who will be expected to drive a State‑owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license prior to driving any State‑owned vehicle. MVRs will be reviewed for workers who have an assigned State fleet vehicle, are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position, or utilize a State fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle.
- Must be 21 years of age or older for Lead Position
- Must be 16 years of age or older for Non‑Lead Position
- Good driving record and ability to work weekends, early mornings, and late evenings
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent customer service experience working with the public
- Reliable and timely
- Ability to self‑motivate and work independently
- High school diploma
- Experience with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines, and/or heavy equipment
- Experience with Microsoft Word applications – Word, Excel, Access
- Ability to work weekends, early mornings, and late evenings
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent customer service experience working with the public
- Reliable and timely
- Ability to self-motivate and work independently
- High school diploma (preferred)
- Experience with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines and/or heavy equipment (preferred)
