Custodian Position at Clayton Elementary School

This position is responsible for the physical condition of the school and grounds. Work closely with building and district administration to coordinate work requests. Supervise, direct, evaluate, and provide feedback to custodial employees. Develop and promote good community relations among various community and school clientele.

Schedule and assign work responsibilities at site; adjust as necessary. Delegate or assume responsibility for night crew activities/events as well as duties required during inclement weather. Maintain ongoing two-way communication with custodial employees, administrative and school personnel as required. Answer emergency calls at any time. Familiar with Police, Fire, and Administrator phone numbers. Ensure safety precautions are being used (e.g., MSDS sheets, gloves, safety goggles, etc.)

Inspect for preventative maintenance opportunities and report the same day. Process employee timecards, investigate and follow up on discrepancies. Train and evaluate custodial and/or contracted employees. Identify, evaluate, and resolve issues with stakeholders. Implement and maintain grounds maintenance plan. Ensure setup and breakdown for groups, special events or activities. Spot-check work for appropriate utilization of specialized equipment, chemicals, safety procedures, etc.

Implement emergency procedures (e.g., health-related emergencies, snow days, accidents, early dismissal, and emergency closure). Assign and perform cleaning and maintenance related to the upkeep and operation of the site. Responsible for the general security of the site. Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment. Delegate or assume responsibility for snow/ice removal from walkways and other areas. Establish student, staff, and parental rapport that allows for a proactive response to potential problems.

Actively lead or participate in meetings, in-service, and other required training. Apply and implement knowledge, skills, and new understandings to support the site. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Supervise, schedule, direct, train or assign training, evaluate and provide feedback to custodial employees. Perform disciplinary action, when necessary. Prioritize and schedule work tasks independently. Create and implement effective and efficient process management strategies (e.g., procedures, equipment, materials, and supplies). Maintain accurate records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and school system policy.

High School Graduate or equivalent. Bilingual (preferred). Three (3) to five (5) years of job-related experience. Three (3) years demonstrated supervisory experience. Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical units. Position requires regular travel between multiple work locations and the use of a company vehicle. English fluency will be determined through the interview process. Ability to hold and maintain a Colorado Driver's License and a clean driving record required.

Valid CPR and First Aid Certification.

Perform maintenance and custodial work throughout the District, including heavy lifting and physically demanding tasks. Fill in for Head Custodians as needed, handling cleaning and maintenance across district buildings. Clean facilities, including trash removal and bathroom cleaning Conduct routine checks and maintenance on HVAC systems, including filter changes. Maintain and repair gym equipment to ensure safety and functionality. Handle minor plumbing and electrical repairs, painting, and drywall repair.

Manage outdoor tasks such as parking lot maintenance, athletic field lining, mowing, trimming and trash collection. Perform roof inspections, gutter cleaning, and address related issues.
