ScheduleMonday – Friday. Primary hours: 7am‑11am or 2pm‑6pm. Full/Part‑Time:
Part‑time.
Responsible for housekeeping and custodial duties involving the care and cleaning of a state institution, public building, or state lodge, as well as the supervision or management of employees performing these duties. The role includes building and grounds maintenance and ensuring safe, sanitary conditions throughout the facility.
Position Responsibilities / Essential Functions- Sweep, dust, mop, scrub, wash, vacuum, wax, and polish floors, walls, woodwork, windows, furniture, equipment, and hardware.
- Clean and sanitize laboratories, washrooms, and bedrooms; keep washrooms supplied with paper, towels, and soap.
- Collect and dispose of trash and garbage; move equipment and furniture such as beds, tables, and chairs.
- Perform sanitary inspections in designated areas for infection control.
- Replace and remove medically contaminated sharps and/or medically soiled and contaminated dressings and supplies.
- Order and distribute custodial supplies; maintain inventory.
- Observe and report safety violations; actively participate in emergency situations.
- Assist in training and continued education of lower‑level workers.
- Plan, assign, and supervise all functions of a housekeeping department.
- Inspect quarters for maintenance of proper housekeeping standards.
- Supervise and maintain records of the distribution of furnishings.
- Maintain necessary records and prepare required reports.
- Establish housekeeping standards; assist with policy planning and prepare departmental budget requests.
- Be present at the office at all times; this is an essential function of the job.
At least eighteen months of experience in building or institutional custodial work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Knowledge of various cleaning methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work, proper waste disposal procedures (including medically contaminated sharps and soiled dressings), and chemical safety.
- Ability to instruct and supervise others and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
Work is typically performed in an office setting with climate‑controlled conditions and moderate noise. Some duties require outdoor work in all weather. Employees frequently talk, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, stand, or walk for long periods, and use hands to handle tools. Occasionally lift or carry up to 80 pounds, frequently 25 pounds, push or pull a maximum force of 40 pounds, and lift overhead up to 40 pounds.
Willingness to perform all associated travel is required.
