Job Title – Transportation Mechanic

Job Goals
- Ensure proper performance and safety of all System vehicles; perform daily activities of vehicle repair/maintenance.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent;
Associates/Technical degree or higher, preferred.Completion of a Certified Auto Mechanic Apprenticeship, or written verification of four (4) years experience as an auto/truck mechanic, or written verification of six (6) years experience as an assistant mechanic in a school bus shop.Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.Must hold or obtain within six months from hire a valid Class “B” commercial driver’s license with “P” and “S” endorsements and a valid Alabama School Bus Driver’s Certificate.Must hold or obtain within six months from hire a School Bus Mechanic Certification.Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. .Ability to use technology as required to perform job responsibilities.Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions and demonstrate effective interpersonal skills.Ability to prioritize tasks.Ability to make estimates of time and material needed for efficient project completion.Ability to effectively perform simultaneous projects and initiatives while meeting multiple deadlines.High level of personal initiative and ability to work without close supervision.Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups.Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions and demonstrate effective interpersonal skills.Ability and willingness to work after hours, weekends, shift work or holidays if necessary.Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may require.Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.Accept and complete Transportation Shop Foreman’s assigned job and overall supervision.Maintain safety at all times.Maintain good relationships with drivers and other school personnel.Accurately diagnose and repair school system transportation equipment.Assume responsibility for the proper use of all equipment and parts received.Report any abuse of vehicles and/or equipment to the Transportation Shop Foreman.Exhibit skill and efficiency in performing routine and preventive maintenance to all vehicles and equipment.Operate school board owned vehicles in accordance with state law and Board policies.Promote high standards of safety and good housekeeping practices including: understanding laws and regulations regarding transportation and safety, ensuring safe operation of all tools and equipment.Operate two-way radio equipment in a professional manner, responding to after‑hours calls as needed.Ability to engage in prolonged standing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning and reaching.Strength and agility to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.Ability to exert up to 75 pounds of force.Engages in required orientations, trainings, safety instruction, and meetings as required for effective job performance and/or advancement.Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel.Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner.Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures.Performs other job‑related duties as assigned by supervisor(s).Terms of Employment
Twelve month position in accordance with the Board's salary schedule.
Evaluation
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Enterprise City Board of Education policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
