Fleet Service Worker

City Vehicle Maintenance Assistant

This position is responsible for assisting in the repair and maintenance of city vehicles.

• Assists fleet maintenance manager and mechanics.
• Assists in the maintenance of the shop, tools, and equipment.
• Notifies supervisor of supplies needed.
• Performs vehicle and equipment maintenance services.
• Completes vehicle maintenance work orders and forwards to appropriate personnel.
• Assists with service calls.
• Picks up parts and supplies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory controls include general instructions from the Fleet Maintenance Manager, with spot-checks for compliance, accuracy, and results.

Guidelines are based on city and department policies and procedures, which may require some interpretation.

Contacts are typically with coworkers, other city personnel, and parts vendors to resolve problems and provide services.

Supervisory and management responsibility is not applicable.

• Knowledge of city safety policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of vehicle maintenance principles and practices.
• Knowledge of equipment maintenance principles and practices.
• Skill in the use of hand and power tools, air compressors, and hydraulic jacks.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

• Possession of a high school diploma or GED.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
