Maintenance Supervisor
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for buildings including preventive maintenance, repairs, installations, alterations, emergency repairs and renovations of the maintenance work unit, which is comprised of the following trades: electrical, maintenance mechanics, plumber/pipe fitters, HVAC technicians, low voltage technician and locksmiths.
Major duties include but are not limited to:
- Performs as a supervisor, in full charge of the M&R work unit. This consists of the General Repair and Building Maintenance Units, including (but not limited to) Maintenance Mechanics, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electric, Machine, Paint, Data and Wire, Fire-life safety, and HVAC shops.
- Responsible to oversee, manage and coordinate, schedule, and execute budgets for: multi-discipline repairs, station funded projects (repair and renovation), small NRM work projects and maintenance contracts.
- Serve as a Contracting Officer Representative (COR) for such projects ensuring credit cards, contracting, fiscal and FMS management policy are followed and complied with.
- Develops and presents, for final approval, the operations, recurring maintenance, and small project budget for the Maintenance and Repair Work Unit assigned on a long-term, as well as on a day-to-day basis.
- Informs the Chief Engineer and other higher-level supervisors of the need to revise work schedules and re-estimate labor and other resources.
- Responsible for planning, tracking and reporting progress on work assignments; request authority to use overtime, equipment, and materials to meet schedules in accordance with facility priorities.
- Responsible to plan for and respond to/address emergent needs in the facility related to the systems and buildings of the Erie VAMC.
- Ensure that all critical systems remain safely operational to prevent interruption to the hospital operation. Unplanned failures or interruptions to building services shall be addressed and corrected in a timely manner by the M&R supervisor using the resources available to the work unit and the VA policies and direction provided by FMS management.
- Plan preventative and predictive maintenance to minimize the risk of unplanned building systems failures.
- Recommend changes to schedules, priorities, and work sequences as necessary to the benefit of the hospital and make minor deviations in procedures or redirect resources under their control to overcome problems such as equipment failure, material delays, or unplanned absences.
