Title: Maintenance Helper
Reports To: Director of Operations
Employment Status: Twelve Month
General Description:
The Maintenance Helper will perform maintenance and custodial duties which relate to the school plant, school building, facilities, equipment, and grounds operation. This is an entry level maintenance position.
Qualifications- High School diploma or equivalent
- High moral character and good attendance record
- Ability to demonstrate general knowledge regarding maintenance (Test to be administered)
- Good physical health - Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and not be afraid of heights or tunnels
- Candidate must possess or obtain within 6 months certifications to drive a school bus including but not limited to: CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with air‑brake, P and S endorsements, CDL physical, and Driver Safety Education
- Works individually or with maintenance personnel to repair and maintain all physical equipment, buildings, facilities, and grounds
- Recommend the purchase of necessary parts for maintenance or repairs to the maintenance staff and/or Director of Operations
- As state, city, and township codes permit, perform maintenance or repair work in the areas of plumbing, heating, electrical, painting, and carpentry
- Pass any required certification testing such as Drinking Water Operations/Testing and IPM (Integrated Pest Management)
- Conducts periodical inspections of the buildings, grounds, and playgrounds to determine areas of needed repair; reports any problems to the maintenance staff and/or the Director of Operations
- Performs summer and winter grounds work including but not limited to lawn mowing, weed trimming, raking, shoveling, ice‑removal, snow plowing, and general exterior building and grounds cleaning; possess the ability and skills to safely operate this equipment such as, snow plow pick‑up truck equipped with a clutch and manual transmission
- Provides custodial support; cleans at the athletic field during football season to include, but not limited to, bathrooms, locker rooms, and stands
- Must be able to work flexible hours as directed; snow plowing may include weekends, early mornings, and nights; custodial hours may include afternoons and working football games
- Pack, move, and arrange furniture, supplies and parts as required throughout the district; heavy lifting may be required
- Help unload trucks and receive, check, and store parts, tools, and supplies
- Maintain a clean, neat, and safe work area; clean and maintains all shop equipment, tools, and work areas
- Will be required to fill in as a substitute school bus driver when needed and as directed by the Director of Operations or Operations Coordinator.
- Follows and assists in the promotion of good safety practices and procedures; reports injuries to the Director of Operations
- Assists in the upkeep of good records for all maintenance, service and repairs completed throughout the district
- Complete paperwork as required by the Director of Operations or other District administration
- Cooperates with other personnel and staff
- Maintains a neat and professional appearance
- Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent, human beings
- Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values
- Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by the Director of Operations, Principal, Assistant Principal, Superintendent of School and/or any designee
- Occasional exposure of blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
- Occasional interaction among unruly children
