Position: Park Attendant I

Position Overview

This is a part‑time Park Attendant I position at Dixon Lake and/or Lake Wohlford in the City of Escondido. The position is a non‑benefited, budgeted role limited to 999 work hours per fiscal year.

Hourly Rate of Pay

$16.50 per hour

Work Schedule

Variable hours, 18–24 hours per week. Applicants must be available on weekends and holidays.

General Responsibilities
  • Assist customers with boats on the dock and help them get in and out.
  • Clean, maintain, and perform minor repairs on boats and boat motors.
  • Support park staff with maintenance tasks such as tree trimming, trail upkeep, stormwater conveyance cleaning, painting, graffiti removal, irrigation repairs, and more.
  • Collect fees and maintain routine records.
  • Provide excellent customer service and answer customer questions.
  • Operate a cash register, answer phones, and use computers to book reservations.
  • Deep‑clean and disinfect restroom buildings, surfaces, toilets, and shower facilities.
  • Use hazardous chemicals safely as required for custodial work.
  • Empty trash cans throughout the park.
  • Clean fish room and dispose of fish waste.
  • Vacuum and clean the ranger station.
  • Demonstrate proper cleaning procedures and teach techniques to other employees as assigned.
  • Perform security patrols of the campground and park after hours, if assigned to a night shift.
  • Use hand tools and power tools as needed.
  • Monitor supply usage and restock or order replacements as needed.
  • Set up tables, chairs, and other equipment for meetings.
  • Maintain and make minor repairs to assigned equipment.
  • Assist with logistics during emergencies, including emergency medical response.
  • Secure City buildings and facilities by turning off lights and locking doors and windows.
  • Close and secure designated parking areas for special events as assigned.
  • Direct traffic during special events as directed by a supervisor.
  • Drive a city vehicle when assigned.
  • Communicate via 2‑way radios with other staff members.
  • Read, understand, and follow Material Safety Data Sheets and related documents.
Ideal Candidate
  • Works cooperatively with others to contribute to a successful team effort.
  • Operates equipment and vehicles safely and consistently with safety procedures.
  • Communicates effectively with co‑workers and the public.
  • Achieves CPR/AED certification within one year of hire.
Minimum Requirements
  • 17 years or older.
  • Own transportation.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs with assistance.
  • Responsible, reliable, and follows verbal and written instructions.
  • Follows City and department policies and procedures.
  • Maintains open communication with supervisors.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in city offices, facilities, and recreational areas. Employees may experience extreme heat and humidity, temperature swings, extreme noise, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electric shock, fumes, odors, dust, and toxic substances from cleaning solutions.

Continuous: walking, reaching, grasping; lifting and carrying objects up to 10 lbs. Frequent: standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching; reaching above shoulder height; pushing/pulling; twisting at waist; strong grips; neck flexion and turning; lifting up to 25 lbs with assistance. Occasional: climbing, balancing, crawling, manipulating objects; lifting and moving but with assistance for up to 100+ lbs.

Vision: adequate to see areas being cleaned, perform maintenance, prepare work orders, and view safety data sheets.

Safety & Drug Screening

City of Escondido maintains a drug‑ and alcohol‑free workplace. A medical examination and a drug screen are required after a conditional offer of employment.
