General Job FunctionTo provide students and staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play and work.
Education / Training / Experience- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must be physically capable and willing to perform required tasks.
- Must possess acceptable attitude(s) towards staff, students, and parents.
Standard office equipment and vehicle for district travel. A district car may be used or if the employee uses his/her own vehicle mileage reimbursement is available.
Physical / Cognitive RequirementsRegularly required to walk, talk and listen; frequently stand and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Ability to lift and/or carry up to 40 pounds. Approximate activities:
Standing 35%, Walking 60%, Sitting 5%.

Essential Job Functions- Demonstrate dedication to job performance and complete tasks assigned.
- Accept direction and guidance from supervisory personnel.
- Adhere to work schedule.
- Keep buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play area attractive and clean at all times.
- Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperature appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
- Clear sidewalks, driveways, parking areas, and areas of snow and ice as needed.
- Hoist the United States and New Mexico flags daily before 8:00 a.m. and lower them in the evenings if not lighted.
- Sweep/vacuum floors daily.
- Clean corridors when conditions require and as directed.
- Wash all windows on both sides at least twice each year or when directed.
- Keep the grounds free of litter and visually inspect equipment for needed repairs.
- Perform yard keeping chores to include, but not limited to: grass cutting and tree trimming.
- Clean all chalkboards at least once a week.
- Initiate minor building repairs, when identified and/or assigned by principal or supervisor.
- Immediately report any damages to school property to the principal or supervisor.
- Assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the facility on a daily basis as assigned by supervisor and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows work properly and all non-safety lights must be turned off.
- Keep an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand and submit a requisition to the principal on a timely basis.
- Conduct an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair of floors, including sanding and sealing of hardwood floors (gym floors where applicable).
- Move furniture or equipment within building as required for various activities and as directed by the principal or supervisor.
- Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, litter, and combustible fuels.
- Conduct periodic safety inspections of assigned school facilities and equipment.
- Replenish restroom supplies.
- Review assigned Work Orders and take action to complete.
- Replace damaged and soiled ceiling tiles, report roof leaks.
- Replace light bulbs and lamps as needed.
- Check boiler, mechanical, electrical and telephone rooms; listen for unusual noises; check for excessive heat and equipment vibrations.
- Inspect elevators for required maintenance service.
- Check for tripped circuit breakers; if breaker cannot be reset, initiate Maintenance Work Order.
- Inspect and reset fire alarm system; if cleaning or reset does not clear alarm status, initiate Maintenance Work Order.
- Assist with annual fire extinguisher testing.
- Inspect and test smoke detectors.
- Inspect, test and service all emergency lights.
- Inspect and test all lighting fixtures.

- Demonstrates reliability as evidenced by attendance records and punctuality.
- Properly notifies supervisor and/or designee of absences or tardiness.
- Begins and completes work within the allotted time.
- Consistently appears in attire appropriate to the work environment.
- Demonstrates skill in the use of equipment, including its capabilities, limitations and appropriate/special applications.
- Protects the District’s resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment.
- Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to aid in the prevention of muscle strain/injury.
