Job Description
The Communications Assistant provides high‑level communication support and a welcoming experience to IPR faculty, students, staff, and visitors on the Evanston campus. The Assistant coordinates communication projects and logistics associated with the Institute's internal and external communications.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing social media accounts (drafting and editing posts).
- Editing editorial content such as articles, documents, and blog posts.
- Editing and resizing photos, and posting online articles.
- Organizing event logistics including set‑up and clean‑up.
- Scanning and filing archival materials.
- Assisting with office moves and other projects as assigned.
Excellent attention to detail, the ability to follow through on tasks completely, and the capacity to work methodically during tedious tasks are critical. The ideal candidate is proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), has experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign), and is familiar with content management systems such as Cascade. Knowledge of the AP Stylebook is a plus.
The Communications Assistant must maintain a positive attitude, demonstrate initiative, exhibit a strong work ethic, and be solutions oriented, collaborative, and coachable. This role requires professionalism, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, small‑team environment.
Qualifications Required- Bachelor’s degree in communications or journalism, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- High level of organization and outstanding attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and diligently.
- Experience handling confidential information.
- Professionalism and flexibility in a fast‑paced environment.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Preferred:
Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign), content management systems (Cascade), and consumer relationship management software (Salesforce or Zoho).
