Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Specialist

We have an exciting opportunity for a Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Specialist at UL Research Institutes and UL Standards & Engagement, based in our Evanston, Illinois, office. The HSE Specialist develops, implements, and supports HSE programs across research and operational environments. This role partners with cross-functional teams to manage risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote a proactive safety culture.

This is a hybrid position (Wednesday & Thursday onsite) at our Evanston, IL. office.

What you'll learn and achieve:

As the HSE Specialist, you will play a key role in the rapid growth of UL as you:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain HSE programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Deliver training to employees on HSE policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Support investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with HSE team members and cross-functional teams to address safety concerns and promote continuous improvement across the organization.
  • Maintains systems and documentation related to HSE activities, including incident reports, training records, and regulatory permits.
  • Stay informed about changes in HSE regulations and industry best practices and support organizational compliance efforts.
  • Assist in developing and communicating emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Conduct inspections, audits, and corrective action tracking
  • Contribute to promoting a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainability throughout the organization.
  • Contribute to analyzing trends with HSE metrics and dashboards (e.g. incident rates, training completions, audit findings).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
