Description

The Accessible Recreation Program Leader is responsible for the supervision and safety of children, teens, and adults with various types of disabilities. Provides individualized support and assistance to enable successful recreation participation. Plans, implements, and evaluates Accessible Recreation programs as assigned. Supervises Accessible Recreation Assistants and volunteers.

Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities and demonstrate knowledge of various kinds of disabilities
  • Must be highly motivated and enthusiastic in order to provide quality experiences for our participants
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug/alcohol screen
  • CPR and First Aid certification required
  • NCI (Non-violent Crisis Intervention) certification required
Essential Functions
  • Supervise individuals with disabilities including implementing behavior management plans and NCI (Non-violent Crisis Intervention) techniques
  • Be responsible for the safety of individuals in the program, including providing emergency care, First Aid, and distributing medications per caregiver's instructions/City Medication Policy
  • Demonstrate good safety awareness, problem-solving ability, and judgment
  • Follow all City policies and procedures
  • Provide guidance and supervision to Accessible Recreation Assistants and program volunteers
  • Maintain effective and open communication with Program Coordinator/leader and other staff with information concerning participants' needs, progress, or situations related to programming
  • Maintain effective and appropriate communication to caregivers regarding participants within the program setting
  • Provide individualized support as needed to ensure participants' successful participation in activities
  • Provide personal assistance to individuals with disabilities as needed, including assistance with transferring, eating, toileting, etc.
  • Plan and prepare program activities for participants based on their unique abilities, needs, and interests
  • Enthusiastically lead and participate in activities
  • Maintain a professional attitude with participants, families, other staff, and community members
  • Supervise participants' arrival to the program and departure from the program
  • Complete availability forms, incident forms, and other materials as needed, in a timely manner
  • Attend mandatory trainings
Marginal Functions
  • Maintain own schedule and submit electronic timesheets in a timely manner, as guided by the City payroll schedule
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying items weighing 20-50 pounds with mechanical assistance or team lift

  • Maintain program facilities in a neat and orderly manner
  • Purchase supplies for program under the direction of the Program Coordinator
  • Gather, load, transport, and set up equipment
  • Basic computer skills
  • Sign language skills preferred
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Program Coordinator/leader
Rate

Starting at $24.75/hour

Schedule

This is a seasonal position that includes a varying number of consecutive weeks (typically 8-10/season) during the fall, winter, spring, and/or summer. A predetermined schedule, including planning and preparation hours, based on staff availability and interest will be provided in the form of a seasonal assignment prior to the season beginning. Total hours per season varies based on assignment.

Supervision

This position receives supervision support from the Accessible Recreation Program Coordinator, Inclusion Coordinator, and/or the Inclusion & Accessibility Division Manager.
