Duties

POSITION SUMMARY:

The job of the Behavior Technician is done for the purpose/s of providing social/emotional and co-regulatory support to the school program with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of students, all of whom have identified special education needs in a self-contained special education classroom; monitoring student behavior during non-classroom time; providing information to appropriate school personnel, and assisting in data collection as needed.

SPECIFIC

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Implements under the supervision of an assigned teacher, student behavioral plans designed by the IEP team, and/or intervention plans for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing concepts needed to be successful in the school environment.

* Responds to calls for assistance and offers direct support across all school environments to regulate, relate, and reason with students.

* Collaborate with the school's social emotional team and educators to improve response protocols and procedures in alignment to therapeutic practices.

* Implements preventative and responsive restorative practices to ensure equitable opportunities.

* Assist in data collection and documentation of student's Behavior Intervention plans, IEP goals and objectives, school-wide data, ISBE reporting, and Medicaid logging under the supervision of the case manager.

* Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments (e.g. restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.

* Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance, as needed, and as instructed by a health care professional for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs.
• Assist the teacher with students who may need physical assistance and intervention.

* Actively engages in meetings and in-service presentations (e.g. therapeutic crisis intervention, emergency procedures, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.

* Assist teachers with providing a balanced curriculum for the purpose of encouraging social and cultural awareness; exploration; predicting and testing behaviors; choices of learning center activities; large/small group and individual activities; language development; cognitive development; and fine and gross motor activities.

* Assist with arranging and clean-up and care of room and school equipment for the purpose of providing a safe learning environment and/or meeting mandated requirements.

* Provides, under the supervision of an assigned teacher, instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities (e.g. social skills, problem solving, daily living skills, etc.) for the purpose of reinforcing instructional objectives; implementing IEP and/or intervention plans; and ensuring students success in school.

* Guides the classroom in the absence of the teacher for the purpose of meeting established timelines and objectives.

* Performs any other duties as assigned by Administration and/or Grant requirements.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job successfully.

Education:

A high school diploma or GED

Experience:

Prior experience with youth-in-care or job related experience preferred.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:

Educator License with Stipulations (PARA), Substitute (SUB), Professional Educator License (PEL), or Educator License with Stipulations (TBE)

Language

Skills:

Reads and comprehends simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Writes simple correspondence. Effectively presents information in one-on-one and small group situations.

Mathematical

Skills:

Adds, subtracts, multiplies, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Computes rate, ratio, and percent and draws and interprets bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:
Applies understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Deals with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
