The role of the Educator – Individualized Education Services focuses on providing services to students with identified educational disabilities. Responsibilities include managing a caseload, developing and monitoring Individual Education Plans (IEP), adapting curriculum to meet student needs, and collaborating in a team approach. This position reports to the Principal.

Responsibilities
  • Administers developmental testing programs and/or subject specific assessments to assess student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress and develops methods for improvement and reinforces classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Advocates for student needs and ensures timely implementation of IEP components, such as Behavior Intervention and Health Care Plans.
  • Assesses student progress toward objectives and provides feedback to students, parents and administration.
  • Collaborates with parents, administrators, related services providers, and other professionals to develop Individual Education Plans (including Behavior Intervention Plans).
  • Commits to equity and eliminating systemic obstacles for students of color to provide access to interventions and opportunities.
  • Communicates consistently with administration and with parents and outside providers to share and receive information.
  • Completes Medicaid logging to document personal care and transportation services provided.
  • Counsels students to improve performance, health status, problem solving techniques and personal issues.
  • Creates, writes, monitors, and facilitates Individual Education Plans for students on caseload.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to students’ physical, medical, and learning styles with respect to identified disabilities.
  • Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom and subject specific assignments.
  • Develops plans for effective communication, monitoring progress and collaborating with/ supporting general education teachers in inclusive settings.
  • Develops safety, evacuation and behavioral plans and oversees their implementation.
  • Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers.
  • Establishes and posts a schedule of daily and weekly service times with students.
  • Establishes expectations and keeps detailed records for oral and written work.
  • Facilitates student learning to achieve success in academic, interpersonal and daily living skills.
  • Instructs students in academic subjects using various techniques (multisensory teaching, repetition to reinforce learning, etc.).
  • Maintains desirable discipline standards and assists when needed in other school areas with student disciplinary management.
  • Maintains positive professional relations with colleagues as a team to support student needs.
  • Manages and teaches socially appropriate behavior to promote self-regulation and safety.
  • Models conversation, manners, clean up activities, listening skills, etc.
  • Monitors students in varied educational environments (classroom, playground, field trips, nap times, etc.).
  • Oversees scheduling of IEP meetings and the IEP process to ensure compliance.
  • Participates in meetings (professional development, IEP, team, etc.) for conveying information.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Prepares a variety of written materials (IEP progress reports, grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.).
  • Prepares materials and plans for daily instruction and sets clear objectives for lessons.
  • Promotes student respect for the rights of others in the classroom.
  • Recognizes safety and health hazards and eliminates them.
  • Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for safety and compliance.
  • Responds to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns and/or direct appropriate personnel.
  • Responds to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, etc. to resolve issues.
