Job SummaryNorthwestern's Center for Connected Learning (CCL) and the Net Logo Center, both founded by Professor Uri Wilensky from the Northwestern Schools of Education and Engineering, are looking for a full-time Curriculum Developer and Teacher Educator. This position focuses on improving and creating educational materials that use Net Logo across STEM and social science subjects in middle and high schools, running teacher education workshops, and conducting outreach to schools and teachers.
Net Logo is a free award‑winning agent‑based modeling (ABM) software used worldwide for modeling and understanding complex systems. It enables students to explore systems by programming many individual "agents" that follow simple rules, thereby illustrating larger patterns such as traffic jams, epidemics, or market cycles.
Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required. This is a 1‑year initial term, renewable upon performance and funding.
Specific Responsibilities- Curriculum Development:
- Compile, organize, and update existing Net Logo‑based curricula, reformatting them for wide accessibility and maintaining up‑to‑date figures and content.
- Identify areas for further curricular development across disciplines and create new curricula, often in collaboration with other researchers or groups.
- Teacher
Education:- Design innovative and scalable teacher education workshops to help teachers integrate Net Logo into their classrooms and modify existing models.
- Run teacher education workshops, primarily online, and continually improve them based on feedback.
- School and Teacher Outreach:
- Recruit teachers for teacher education programs, cultivate relationships with schools, and present at conferences.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Successful completion of a full 4‑year college or university education leading to a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field (natural science, social science, education, learning sciences, etc.) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong interest in designing educational materials and/or experiences.
- Passion for science and an interest in how computational tools can transform scientific practice and education.
- Knowledge of science content and excitement to learn more.
- Enthusiasm to learn agent‑based modeling using Net Logo.
- Passion for learning and education.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Advanced degree (master's or PhD) in a relevant field.
- Significant experience teaching science, social studies, or math.
- Experience developing instructional materials.
- Experience designing educational technology or web‑based learning tools, especially for computational modeling in education.
- Experience running educational workshops.
- Experience working with teachers in schools.
- Experience with K‑12 school outreach or teacher recruitment.
- Experience with computational thinking, computer science education, or simulation/modeling in educational contexts.
- Programming experience.
- Knowledge of Net Logo or other agent‑based modeling tools.
- Familiarity with NGSS or other standards frameworks.
Target salary range: $70,000–$80,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and ability, in addition to internal equity and market data.
