Overview
This job posting describes a Paraprofessional role within a self-contained, special education program (STEP) that supports students who have an Autism Spectrum Disorder. The program emphasizes developing social, academic, communication skills, independence and learning stamina across school settings. Paraprofessionals work with a certified special education teacher and licensed staff, and may support related services as determined by the IEP team.

Responsibilities- Adapts classroom activities, assignments and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives.
- Administers tests, homework, make-up work, etc. to support teachers in the classroom.
- Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as needed and as instructed by a health care professional (e.g., diapering, tube feeding, colostomy bags, medication) to meet immediate health care needs.
- Assists medically fragile or physically disabled students to maintain personal hygiene.
- Attends meetings and in-service presentations to acquire or convey information related to job functions.
- Communicates with supervising instructional staff, professional support personnel, and parents to evaluate progress and/or implement IEP objectives.
- Implements behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other conditions, under supervision, to reinforce learning concepts.
- Maintains instructional materials and records to ensure availability and compliance with requirements.
- Monitors students during assigned periods across various school environments to maintain a safe, positive learning environment.
- Provides instruction to students in individual and group activities to reinforce instructional objectives, implement IEP plans, and support student success.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
- Under direct supervision, may lead or coordinate others; some resources from other units may be used to perform job functions.
Education Required:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a job-related area.
Certificates and licenses:
Must have one of the following:
- Professional Educator License,
- Substitute Teaching License,
- Educator License with Stipulations (TBE) or
- Educator License with Stipulations (PARA).
Experience Preferred:
- Job related experience is desired.
- Targeted, job related education with study in a job-related area.
