Department: WCAS English The Department of English at Northwestern University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Nineteenth-Century British Literature and Culture. We welcome candidates whose research focuses on any form of British cultural production of the long nineteenth century and any critical approach, including those considering empire, gender, race, class, sexuality, disability, and ecological perspectives.

Applicants must have the PhD in hand by the anticipated start date of September 1, 2027.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach and advise at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including teaching British literature survey courses and courses on the British novel as well as introductory and advanced courses in their area of specialization.

Salary

The expected base pay range for this position is $90,000 - $105,000. This base pay range is for a nine-month academic appointment, does not include summer salary, and is subject to negotiation. Northwestern University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline;

departmental budget availability; internal comparators; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
