The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency seeks an Environmental Protection Specialist IV to serve as a working supervisor and technical expert for a municipal water pollution control permitting unit in Des Plaines. This position supervises 3-5 professional and technical staff while conducting complex reviews of facility plans, permit applications, and NPDES permits for municipal wastewater facilities, and provides expert consultation on difficult environmental issues.
The role represents the agency in regulatory proceedings and prepares documents for bureau management.
- Four years of professional experience in environmental protection or related field
- Four years of experience reviewing and writing NPDES permit applications for water pollution control facilities
- Four years of experience interpreting and applying relevant State and federal environmental laws, rules, and regulations
- Current valid driver's license and ability to travel
- Preferred:
Four years of experience supervising technical staff in a public or private organization - Preferred:
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access software
