Brief Description
Summary of Position:
The Manager of Shelter Programs is based on-site at the Margarita Inn and is responsible for the daily programmatic, service delivery, and operational oversight of shelter programs at Connections for the Homeless (CFTH), in collaboration with the agency’s health and clinical teams.
- Supervises, manages, and mentors shelter program staff including Shelter Case Managers, Program Operations Staff, and Shelter Supervisor
- Along with Shelter Supervisor oversees daily operations of CFTH’s shelter programs including managing supplies/inventory, overseeing staff scheduling, and serving as a liaison with shelter housekeeping and maintenance staff
- Conducts regular supervision meetings with direct reports, provides regular and annual performance reviews and performance management, approves staff timecards and manages time off requests.
- Delegates work assignments to direct reports in accordance with agency and program policies
- Ensures the implementation of evidence-based practices, CFTH’s Core Values and Philosophy of Care within shelter programs and works alongside staff providing mentorship and training as needed
- Develops agenda and leads regular program and team meetings with shelter staff to ensure coordination of care
- Develops and regularly reviews and evaluates policies and procedures related to shelter programs to ensure adequate delivery of CFTH’s service model
- Along with Shelter Supervisor monitors incident reporting log and follows up as needed with participants when incidents occur
- Provides leadership support during staffing shortages as needed
- Ensures appropriate data, relevant to service provided, is entered into designated systems such as HMIS and Smartsheet. Along with Shelter Supervisor ensures HMIS and shelter census are updated when entries/exits occur
- Along with Shelter Supervisor ensures that the environment is safe, clean, welcoming, and community-oriented by supporting participants with adhering to general and program-specific rules
- Identifies issues with safety and/or program operations and makes recommendations for improvement to Director of Community Programs
- Develops and maintains relationships with external programs, partners, organizations, and the surrounding community where the Margarita is located
- Collaborates regularly to ensure timely delivery of meals
- Arrives on time and prepared and maintains and models appropriate professional demeanor and boundaries
- Attends and participates in meetings and trainings as expected and required by the agency, including regular supervision and team meetings; management meetings; agency meetings; multi-disciplinary case consultation meetings; and internal and external trainings
- Develops and maintains strong and professional relationships with fellow staff and participants through effective, and cross-functional, communication and collaboration
- Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, if necessary to ensure adequate coverage
- Adheres to the Code of Conduct and Core Values of Connections for the Homeless
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Certification in de-escalation training (i.e., CTI; Handle with Care, etc.) or willing to obtain within 90 days of employment
- 3-5 years of direct service experience and at least one year of supervisory experience in human services (preferably in a residential setting)
- Advanced computer proficiency / Experience with HMIS strongly preferred
- Cultural competency in working with a diverse population and a strong commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive environment for staff and participants
- Experience in training staff and implementing evidence-based practices including trauma-informed care and harm reduction
- Effective speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time, with or without reasonable accommodation.
