Department:
Kellogg Strategy. Professors Amanda Starc, Craig Garthwaite, and David Dranove are looking for an Empirical Research Fellow for a period of at least one year, but ideally two years. Research fellows work closely with faculty on a number of new and ongoing projects in economics fields with an emphasis on healthcare. Research fellows collect and organize data, conduct statistical analysis and provide other support associated with faculty research.
The role involves collecting and organizing data, conducting statistical analyses, and providing other support associated with faculty research as part of ongoing and new projects.
Qualifications- A strong quantitative background and completion (or completion anticipated) of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
- Excellent programming skills (especially in Stata, R or Matlab).
- Past experience with research, including independent work (such as an undergraduate thesis) or work as a research assistant. Background in Economics is strongly recommended, though not required; candidates with strong technical backgrounds who want more exposure to Economics or Finance are encouraged to apply.
The preferred start date is July 1, 2026, though earlier start dates will be considered. Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis, but all applications submitted by February 28, 2026 will be given full consideration. The selected candidate will be offered a one-year appointment, with the ability to renew for one year based on performance.
CompensationThe base pay for this position is $50,000. Northwestern University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, years since terminal degree, training, field or discipline; departmental budget; internal comparators; and external market pay for comparable jobs.
